Rules

The rules governing WesterosCraft's server, Discord, and forums, plus how moderation, consequences, and appeals work.

WesterosCraft has been running for over 14 years. In that time, hundreds of builders, coders, and artists have come together around a shared passion for the works of George R.R. Martin. These rules govern all WesterosCraft spaces: our Minecraft server, Discord, forums, and other platforms. Please read them carefully before participating.

Breaking these rules may result in temporary or permanent removal from our community spaces depending on the severity and frequency of violations.

The Golden Rule

Be respectful and kind. Treat others the way you'd want to be treated, with courtesy, empathy, and good faith. When in doubt, ask yourself: "Would I want to interact with someone acting this way?" If the answer is no, reconsider your approach.

Community Principles

These are the cultural expectations behind the rules: not specific behaviors, but how we work together.

  1. Embrace Fair Feedback: Offer and accept constructive feedback. The build quality on this server comes from people helping each other improve.
  2. Self-Moderation: Take responsibility for your own behavior. Don't wait for a mod to tell you something is out of line.
  3. Respect Creative Vision: When you build in someone's project, you're working under their vision. Appreciate and uphold that.
  4. Value Contributions: Recognize the efforts of fellow builders, even work you think could be better. Everyone is learning.

Chat and Server Rules

  • No discriminatory language or behavior. Racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, transphobic, ableist, hate speech, slurs, or any other derogatory, toxic, or discriminatory language or behavior will not be tolerated. This is forbidden in even an ironic/joking manner.
  • No excessively profane, gross or adult content in public channels. The fact that ASOIAF itself is NSFW doesn't really change anything, as there are ways to discuss mature content without being explicit. Please talk about mature subjects in a mature manner.
  • Treat sensitive topics sensitively. Don't discuss religion, politics, or generally controversial topics. Avoid topics likely to cause heated political or religious arguments. Do not disparage or discuss settled moderation decisions, including banned users.
  • Show and book spoilers are permitted in discussion. Intentionally spoiling someone's experience maliciously is a ban worthy offense.
  • Keep conversations in their respective channels. Sometimes users in game respond to people in a Discord voice chat. This can be confusing and spam the in-game chat. Please use Discord's chat features if you are in a voice chat.
  • No advertising other servers or unrelated projects, except in the #creative channel on Discord
  • Don't impersonate staff or other community members
  • No backseat moderating. Do not deliberately perform the actions of a staff member without holding the role.
  • Do not abuse bugs or exploits. If you discover a bug, report it to a staff member
  • No griefing. Don't intentionally destroy someone's builds without permission.
  • Keep personal issues offline. Our mod team can't provide mental health support. Don't use the server to vent personal problems or air grievances that started outside our platforms. If it starts affecting the community, we'll step in.

When in our Discord, you must follow the guidelines and terms of service:

Consequences

Actions taken increase in severity and include a scaling system of punishments starting with a Warning, then progress to a Temp Ban for an escalating period of time (one week, one month, 6 months, 1 year), and then a Permaban. You may be permabanned if you receive too many actions taken against you.

Staff and Moderation

The staff team may moderate based on what they deem appropriate and holds final discretion. Moderation decisions consider context, history, severity, and impact on the community. We focus on the spirit rather than the letter of these rules.

All moderation decisions are made fairly and without favoritism. The mod team's role has shifted over time from creative leadership to community moderation and conflict resolution. Moderating WesterosCraft should remain a creative outlet, not unpaid labor.

Reporting misconduct: If you believe misconduct has occurred, report it via the relevant channels with supporting evidence. Each case is handled by committee and investigated by weighing evidence against server rules. We cannot investigate without accurate and detailed information.

Appeals Process

Bans are rarely overturned, but if you were perma-banned, you can eventually appeal.

  • Unless told otherwise, wait at least 24 hours before appealing
  • Clearly explain why you believe the decision should be reconsidered
  • Be respectful and constructive in your appeal

Contact the moderation team by opening a ticket by visiting Discord #rules channel and pressing the button there. This opens a private channel between you and the staff. If you have been banned from Discord, or wish to submit feedback anonymously, please visit our Contact Page.

Changes to Rules

These rules may be updated as our community evolves. Major changes will be announced in Discord and on the server. Members are responsible for staying informed about current guidelines.
