Vanilla Launcher Modpack Guide

This guide walks you through installing The WesterosCraft Modpack (opens in a new tab) on the official Minecraft launcher using Fabric for Minecraft 1.21.1.

This is a manual process. It's not hard, just a few steps, but theres a reason a lot of the community uses a launcher. If you'd rather have it done in one click, the Modrinth App (opens in a new tab) installs this pack automatically - but that's a separate launcher. The steps below are for people who want to stay on the official launcher.

What you'll need

  • Minecraft: Java Edition with the official Minecraft Launcher
  • A reasonably capable PC with 4GB - 8GB of memory to spare

Step 1: Install Fabric 1.21.1

The pack runs on the Fabric mod loader, which you add to the vanilla launcher with Fabric's official installer.

  1. Go to https://fabricmc.net/use/installer/ (opens in a new tab) and download the installer.
  2. Run it.
  1. In the installer, open the Client tab and set:
  • Minecraft Version: 1.21.1

  • Loader Version: the latest stable (default is fine)

  • Make sure Create profile is checked.

Open the Minecraft Launcher. You should now see a fabric-loader-1.21.1 profile in the dropdown next to the Play button.

You can now add mods to your game.

Step 2: Add the Mods

This is the tedious part. To build the modpack, you have to download each mod individually. For each mod on our modpack page, visit the dependencies download page, get the latest version for 1.21.1 Fabric, and put it in your mods folder under the Minecraft installation you just installed.

Step 3: Allocate more RAM

Distant Horizons plus shaders needs more memory than the default 2 GB.

  1. Back in Installations -> fabric-loader-1.21.1 -> Edit -> More Options.
  2. In the JVM Arguments box, find -Xmx2G and change it to -Xmx4G (or -Xmx8G if you have 16 GB+ of system RAM).
  3. Save.

Step 5: Launch

  1. Select the fabric-loader-1.21.1 profile and hit Play.
  2. First launch takes a moment while it loads the mods.
  3. To join the live build server, go to Multiplayer → Add Server and enter: 81.16.176.139:25565
